The Fat Mentality

*I originally posted this on my Facebook profile. Thought I'd bring it over here.*

Sometimes when a person loses weight, it's still hard to let go of the "fat person" mentality. You look in the mirror and even though in your mind, you *know* you aren't the same person you were, your eyes and even sometimes your brain stil...l translates the image into the "fat person". It's something that you deal with on a daily basis, letting go of the old and embracing the new. Sometimes, it doesn't even matter that other people tell you how much you've changed, it has to be something that *you* have to see for yourself. It's hard to let go of all the old thoughts and worthless feelings. It's hard to look at yourself and not hate what you see or critique the hell out of your flaws. It's even harder still, to replace all of those old thoughts with new ones, positive ones but I promise you, it can be done and YOU ARE WORTH IT! You (including myself) ARE beautiful!

I had to stop calling myself "The Fat Girl". Regardless of how much I weigh, who I am (and who you are) isn't defined by the numbers on the scale. Let's face it, for all intents and purposes, they are just numbers. YOU (and me), we are NOT who we are because of those numbers. We are who we are because we love unconditionally, care immensely and are fiercely passionate. THAT, my lovely friends, is WHO we are. So while it's good to focus a little on those numbers in our endeavors to get healthy, let's also remember to focus on us. Be the best person YOU can be regardless of what the scale says.

Today, I needed a little boost. I needed to be able to look and truly see, with not just my eyes but my brain, those changes. They are there, I know they are there but every once in awhile, "the fat girl thinking" slips in and this is to shut her up once and for all. My legs have always been a hated feature. Truth be told, I'm still not a fan. So I decided to recreate a picture that I took three years ago. The difference is there, no question. I couldn't wear the same skirt because it's too big and long gone but the shoes are the same. Also, my knees are wrinkly like an elephants I wasn't intending on writing so much, it just kind of happened. If you've made it this far, thank you.
